National assistance centre for the recognition of professional qualifications

The national assistance centre provides advice on issues concerning the recognition of professional qualifications in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC.

The national assistance centre can provide information on whether a profession to be practised in Hungary by a person with foreign qualifications is a regulated professional activity. Upon request, the national assistance centre also provides detailed information about the legislation applicable to the practice of a profession and the recognition procedure as well as the principles of the recognition procedure, the conduct of the procedure, the authorities conducting the procedure and their contact details. Where necessary, it refers clients with a foreign qualification for additional information to the authority competent to recognise the qualification concerned.

Persons with a foreign qualification may also contact the national assistance centre if they require assistance with enforcing their rights under Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications.

Requests for information should be submitted to the national assistance centre, preferably via email.

The national assistance centre replies to emails requesting information within a reasonable time, typically by electronic means.

If persons with a foreign qualification request information on whether their qualification can be recognised in Hungary, they should attach a copy of their qualification, including its translation where available, to their email and provide their telephone number on which they can be reached by the national assistance centre if necessary.

Information is provided free of charge.

As a department of the Educational Authority, the Hungarian Equivalence and Information Centre acts as the national assistance centre for the recognition of professional qualifications.

For the purposes of the procedure for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications, the following are considered Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

For the purposes of the procedure for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications, Hungarian nationals’ and Member State nationals’ family members with the right to move and reside freely under a separate law, third-country nationals holding a residence permit for research purposes, persons with immigrant or settled status, third-country nationals holding a permit issued for the purposes of highly qualified employment and residence (EU Blue Card) and third-country nationals holding a single permit are treated as equivalent to Member State nationals.
